A model a day – day 3 – Skitarii Hypaspist
Day 3 of ‘a model a day’; today I present a Skitarii Hypaspist. They are the regular ground infantry of the Mechanicus expeditions – the equivalent of Imperial soldiers. For this reason they are often referred to as ‘Tech Guard’.
The model is based on Forgeworld’s Death Korps of Krieg models, with a minor change to the head. A tutorial for creating this can be seen here.
Each maniple (squad) of hypaspists consists of 12 models and I intend to field 2 maniples. Hopefully I will sneak in the other 21 in between articles!
The base colours follow the menials, a Dark Flesh coat, boltgun metals and Charadin Granite undercoat, washed in Devlan Mud.
The carapace armour was roughly brushed with Adeptus Battlegrey and then the edges highlited with Boltgun Metal. The coat was washed with Delvan Mud and then re-touched with Dark Flesh on the raised areas. Leather areas, such as the belt and boots, were painted black.
The shadow areas of the carapace were ashed carefully with Asuryan Blue and the trousers given a brown camo base coat, washed with Devlan Mud.
Finishing touches include a final highlight to the coat, using a mixture of Dark Flesh and Ochre. The gasmask was then crudely painted white to represent the trooper presenting a skull face.
Here’s a group shot of the first 3 days worth of models.
