A model a day – day 5 – Athena, Mechanicus Assassin
Rather than building a custom model, I decided to use a spare Callidus assassin to represent Athena, who is a traitor-aligned agent of the Mechanicum. Her full stats can be found in the Warmaster pack for the Age of the Emperor by Tempus Fugitives.
The model is undercoated in Charadin Granite, washed with Badab Black. The gold on the weapons and skulls is a 1:1 mix of Mithril Silver and Shining Gold, lightly washed with Devlan Mud. I painted the loincloth with Codex Grey, leaving the deepest recesses dark grey. Her face is decorated with a half skull skull, built up from Astronomican Blue, followed by Skull White.
The loincloth was washed lightly with Badab Black to help blend the grey and then highlighted in Codex Grey again.Other metal parts were coated in Boltgun metal – the cables and belt buckles.
All the small belts, detail on the gun and collar were coated in Codex Grey, intended to be a mild silver. The loincloth washed and highlited again for a finer blend.
The areas previous painted Codex Grey were highlited finely with Chainmail, giving them a mild metallic look. The crystal in the gun was painted Goblin Green, Washed with Thrakka Green and highlited with Goblin Green again, adding a little Skull White with each pass. The metal cables were washed with Badab Black.
Finally, her hair was picked out with Blood Red, some red wash was applied to the base of the blade and then the whole blade highlighted with Mithril Silver. For once, I didn’t melt the base!
I noticed early on that I didn’t file down the mold line that runs around the entire model. Instead, I made use of the line to paint half her catsuit in my army’s primary colour – Dark Flesh.
