A model a day – day 7 and 8 – Sentinel

A model a day – 7 – Warden Sentinel.

This has been the hardest model to paint so far, but nothing to do with the model’s size. I hit a block early on when deciding exactly how to paint it! As such it’s hit a very generic look for the time being.

Hopefully I will revisit this later once I’ve done a few more vehicles and gained some new ideas. Suggestions welcome!

The whole model was painted in a rusty metallic setup: Tin Bitz, drybrushed Dwarf Bronze, then Shining Gold and washed Devlan Mud.

The model was then drybrushed Boltgun metal before attending to other colours. Some armour plates were painted black as an entirely rusty metal look was not intentional and simply looked bad.

I toyed with the idea of a skull icon covering the cockpit, which was then reduced to half a skull as the cockpit view points were too close together to do eye sockets. I quickly realised the idea was ill-conceived and painted over it.

Various parts of the legs were painted black – those that looked more like casing than mobile joints. All black areas were picked out with silver highlights to show weathering.

The Plasma coil is simply Goblin Green washed in Thrakka Green.

Returning to the skull theme of Mortis, I tried out a small face on the cockpit with a unit number.

Finishing up, the base wasgiven generous amounts of drybrushing and flock!

And since I took the liberty of a day off over Easter, I caught up with the model count… by painting 2! Meet his slightly damaged brother.

man i really liked that skull across the cockpit – shame you gave up on it.

I agree. I think the larger skull would have worked quite well. It looked pretty good. I do however like your darker metallic tones, overall it looks great.
