Age of the Emperor 2011 announced

By Rusty Dice

Today, Ulfhedin officially announced the return of the popular Age of the Emperor campaign series. From his post:

October 22nd and 23rd 2011 will see the return of the Age of the Emperor campaign weekends at Warhammer World.

Before this massive project gets underway I thought it would make sense to get the input of TGCers as to what they would like to see in these new AotE weekends.

Spearhead – compromise between 40k and Apocalypse

By Rusty Dice

Lacking any sense of urgency to try the latest 40k expansion, I finally played my first game(s) of Spearhead last night. We followed loose format as found in the Into the Maelstrom campaign pack by Tempus Fugitives:

  • 1,000 points
  • No FOC minimums
  • Spearhead formation(s) within points limit

I put together three quick (and silly!) lists to learn the hard way:

Fielding Genestealer Cult as Tyranids

By Rusty Dice

This may seem quite an obvious choice of army to field Genestealers, but what are the pros and cons of using Codex: Tyranids as a Genestealer Cult army?

On the plus side, we can do Genestealers justice by fielding them as the real deal. We even get extra options, such as Ymgarl elites and Broodlords. With Genestealers set as a troops choice, it's possible to field an entirely purestrain list if desired.

Fielding Genestealer Cult as Orks

By Rusty Dice

Quite surprisingly (for me), Orks received the most positive response for which Codex to use to field a Genestealer Cult army. What options for Genestealer Cults have within the Ork Codex? Lets's see how others have approached it:

Gorgon's Genestealer Cult army is played using Codex Orks. You may well recognise his work here. For a more literal Ork Genestealer Cult, Ninjabread has a lovely converted Ork Hybrid army.

Gorgon paired his choices as follows:

Planning a new army? Genestealer Cult

By Rusty Dice

With no upcoming tournaments or campaigns planned, I find I hit a lull in my hobby motivation. I am aware of a few campaigns in 2011, but the distances and cost are tough to justify - I could buy a new army for the cost of a weekend of gaming, is it worth it and can I afford it?

Do the ends justify the means? Can you put a cost against motivation and having fun? Perhaps I should consign the consequence to hell and get on with the painting!
