A model a day – day 5 – Athena, Mechanicus Assassin

Day 5 of a model a day; Athena is revealed.

Rather than building a custom model, I decided to use a spare Callidus assassin to represent Athena, who is a traitor-aligned agent of the Mechanicum. Her full stats can be found in the Warmaster pack for the Age of the Emperor by Tempus Fugitives.

The model is undercoated in Charadin Granite, washed with Badab Black. The gold on the weapons and skulls is a 1:1 mix of Mithril Silver and Shining Gold, lightly washed with Devlan Mud. I painted the loincloth with Codex Grey, leaving the deepest recesses dark grey. Her face is decorated with a half skull skull, built up from Astronomican Blue, followed by Skull White.

A model a day – day 4 – Feral Servitor

Day 4 of  'a model a day'; Happy Easter!

Unsurprisingly I've been working on a completely unfestive model for Good Friday - a feral Servitor. This/these models require a little introduction. If you have read Mechanicus, you will have heard of feral Servitors. The name alone was enough to inspire me. I decided to collect no less than 30 servitors to turn into these things. They are simply Servitors that have gone wild.

As my army is for the Tempus Fugitives campaign, they obviously need to reprensent a unit. Currently there is no unit for them, so I have been using them as Plaguebearers as they can be fielded within my army.

Here's the basic model. The servitor is from the Inquisitor Corteaz set. His right arm is a from the marauder sprue, the dendrites are the bottom of a servo skull.

A model a day – day 3 – Skitarii Hypaspist

Day 3 of  'a model a day'; today I present a Skitarii Hypaspist. They are the regular ground infantry of the Mechanicus expeditions - the equivalent of Imperial soldiers. For this reason they are often referred to as 'Tech Guard'.

The model is based on Forgeworld's Death Korps of Krieg models, with a minor change to the head. A tutorial for creating this can be seen here.

Each maniple (squad) of hypaspists consists of 12 models and I intend to field 2 maniples. Hopefully I will sneak in the other 21 in between articles!

A model a day – day 2 – Dark Mechanicus Combat Ogryn

The challenge continues! Yesterday I painted the first menial for my Dark Mechanicus force. This unit of menials, from the Tempus Fugitives Mechanicus codex, can be up to 30 models strong, with up to 10 of them upgradable to Combat Ogryns - COGs.

Adding to this unit today, here's a COG in all his imrpovised glory, wielding a pole torn from the floor - a great model from ForgeWorld's renegade guard series. I would love to include the whole 10 COGs in my menial unit, but the cost of these models is far too much for their points value.

I haven't made any modifications to the model, but left off the small canisters that attach to the pipes on his back. I have another use for those and prefer the COG to look depraved and battle-worn.

Dark Mechanicus project – Chimera and StuG

Fresh from the forge, I've painted up a customised Chimera to fit with the StuG shown previously. The dark red will be repeated across the tanks to help keep the army looking uniform on the battlefield as there's going to be plenty of unique traits to each individual vehicle.

The obvious difference to the model is the exposed tracks, which I'm drawing inspiration from World War I vehicles (though most real world tanks are like this!). I've reconstructed the top of the vehicle a little to put the turret towards the back of the vehicle and drop those ugly lasgun portholes.
