Creating pre-Heresy marines: Part 5 – Mark II power armour 2

Creating pre-Heresy marines: Part 5 – Mark II power armour

Continuing the guides for producing pre-Heresy armour, next in line we have Mark II: Crusade.

The Crusade armour was the first fully sealed Power Armour used by the Astartes as the Emperor began expanding his control beyond Terra.

Here is one of Games Workshop’s classic Mark II Space Marines. The backpack has been removed to show the detail on the pads and legs, the model painted as a Dusk Raider by Whitehorn.

Maxmini Giant Wolf revisited – Painted Thunderwolf

A quick return to the Maxmini Giant Wolf kit that was previously reviewed here, I got round to painting the model (not base!) in pre-Heresy Space Wolf colours. He’s lacking insignia and squad markings, making it looks a little monotone with my choice to do the wolf grey too (oops)!

An enjoyable model to paint overall, but I clearly need some practice doing fur and Canids as a whole. I’m determined to get hold of some bike bases and give this little fellow a proper base.

Reinventing the Steel – Sons of Horus Vanguard

To keep my own projects on track I am planning to put the spotlight on a select squad or unit from my collection each week and aim to tidy up and paint them.

The first installment for this ‘scrap workshop’ are my Vanguard / Assault Marines. These chaps began life as pre-Heresy Salamanders, but a good half of that army became Sons of Horus after a Great Crusade campaign, leaving them unloved and needing a fair bit of attention and paint.

The bulk of the armour is complete, requiring arms, shoulder pads and helmet. Creating backpacks has been covered previously here.

Maxmini’s Steam Knight helmets have a selection of useful helmets for pre-Heresy conversions. The Mark II helmet shown here can be used as the base for a Mark III helmet with a few adjustments.

Maxmini giant wolf and rider – update

Przemas of Maxmini has released an updated look at the upcoming giant wolf (and rider) set. Suffice to say, they do not disappoint and initial response has very positive! MyWargame will be reviewing the model very soon, but in the meantime here’s a glimpse at the pack and options:

The pack contains a random head for the wolf from the 3 below:
